The Representative of the former Prime Minister Gordon Brown met with U Tin Oo.

Yesterday, August 9, 2012, at 2pm, Mr Tanvir Mohammad Muntasin, Senior Manager, Education and Youth from the Embassy of Great Britain based in Thailand and the Representative of the former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, came to the head-office of NLD. He met with U Tin Oo, the president of Central Commission of NLD and discussed educational issue as following.
TMM: I would like to know about education in Burma.
UTO: In Burma, there are still many children who don’t have access to primary education and who are not affordable, who are struggling to attend the secondary school, even though some affordable ones are taking private tuitions. They spend a lot of money on education because they think that they will get better education. Since education in Burma is very non-international standard, only elites’ generations can go abroad for further study.
TMM: I’d like to know the opinion of NLD on the educational aid program for Burma.
UTO: With regard to aid program, there must be transparency and accountability. Aid must be reached to the needy and people who will sacrifice for Burma.
TMM: Which language is essential in Burma?
UTO: The essential language in Burma was Burmese language in the past. Now, English language is also an essential one compared to Burmese language. Regarding ethnicity, we must provide them to be able to enrich their culture and literature. These ethnicities such as Chin, Kachin and so on have their own culture and literature. I want you to help them in promoting their culture.
TMM: There was a huge number of illiterate in Burma in the past. Now what is NLD doing to solve such problems?
UTO: It is true that there were huge number of illiterate in Burma in old day and at that time, with the help of monastic education called Ba-Ka, the number of illiterate had been reduced. Nowadays, under the guideline of our leader, DASSK, youth networks are trying their best to promote the primary education for all children including orphanage. Thus, youth networks are successfully proceeding it in nation wide. Youths in our country are trying their best in order to promote their qualifications and it is very encouraging. Even though there are some limitations on them, DASSK is doing her best in helping youths trying under the plights. Now, DASSK is emphasizing on the development of the vocational training.
